What is EHR?

EHR is an electronic health record, or a digital documentation of a patient’s medical history and other medical data such as immunization status and allergies, medications, hospitalization records, and other things.

Having an EHR has many benefits. First of all, the information is updated in real time and this could be shared among different offices and organizations, making it easy to access whenever it is needed. Also, image results are much easier to send to other facilities rather than manually sending them.

The system also gives an easier standardization of services. Once more facilities start implementing EHRs, patient records can be seamlessly shared between them, eliminating the need for fetching records here and there. This also means that there will be accuracy of patient information.

The key advantage of EHR is that it would contain information from current and past doctors, facilities, and other clinics. No more going from clinic to clinic to find past records. We have come to an age where sharing on the web is becoming standard, and the medical industry is no exception. Electronic health records is like the social media for hospitals and clinics, but instead of links and photos, what is shared are medical records, medical conditions, hospitalization records, and others.
